Goodside Health Celebrates Child Health Day

Goodside Health joins the country in celebration of National Child Health Day.

Child Health Day became a national day of observance in 1928 when President Calvin Coolidge issued a proclamation to bring awareness to the importance of keeping children healthy. Each year, under a Joint Resolution of Congress, the President of the United States proclaims Child Health Day.

On this day, families and communities are encouraged to take action to improve the physical and mental health and social well-being of children. Physical activity and healthy eating habits are important for maintaining overall health and preventing chronic diseases. Mental health is also important for children’s development. Children who have positive mental health are better able to cope with stress and adversity. They are also more likely to do well in school and have healthy relationships with friends and family.

To promote child health parents, caregivers and role models can create a supportive home environment, model healthy behaviors, and make sure that children have access to quality healthcare. There are lots of simple ways to do this, such as:

  • Scheduling annual doctor’s appointments
  • Taking a family walk or bike ride
  • Playing at a neighborhood park
  • Dancing around the living room

It’s also important to make sure children are eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and limiting sugary drinks and snacks. By making healthy lifestyle choices now, we can help children build a fit and healthy future.

At Goodside Health we focus on children’s health every day. Child Health Day is an important opportunity to remind us all of the steps we can take to ensure that every child has the chance to grow up healthy and happy.
