Julia wears many hats for her role as Goodside Health’s Regional Provider Lead for Florida. In addition to administering clinical care for students and staff as a provider through Goodside Health’s SchoolMed program, she directly engages with Goodside Health partner districts throughout Florida. Julia provides training and ongoing support to school health professionals and district staff to ensure they are confident using Goodside Health’s custom school-based telehealth platform. She is heavily invested in the local communities that her teams serve, and she finds time to connect with the families in their care through speaking engagements and community events.
Julia is on a mission to bring equitable access to healthcare to children throughout Florida through her work with the SchoolMed program. “Clinically it is fulfilling to be working in this capacity to provide care. As a company, Goodside Health is the leader in providing this type of comprehensive, school-based care for a reason. Passion and experience are two of our values and it shows in the way we empower schools and communities through our model of care.”
SchoolMed visits are a primary way that Julia and her team help school districts maintain a safe and healthy environment for in-person learning. “I want districts to see how much our providers care about their needs. Making sure their schools stay healthy, getting students the care they need so they can get back to class, reducing chronic absenteeism, and treating school staff in a responsible way. I want them to know we will support the families by providing education and increasing health literacy in their communities.”
Julia strives to provide a simple and seamless experience for her students and their families, and as a working mom of two young boys, she understands the demands parents face when a child gets sick. “Parents and guardians of school-aged kids are busy! I want them to know we respect their time. We follow evidence-based practices to make the best decision we can so parents/guardians are not having to seek additional care after a SchoolMed visit. We send in the prescription, if needed, so the parents and guardians can pick it up when they pick up their child from school. Parents and guardians receive all the post-visit education they need to ensure they are on the right path. They don’t need to follow up with a Primary Care Provider, get a prescription through someone else, worry about school notes and following up with the school after illness. We are on the same team, to help their child in the most effective and efficient way possible, get back to health as soon as possible.”
As a provider, Julia is enthusiastic about the growth Goodside Health is experiencing. “At our core, we’re telemedicine providers so we do not always get “hands-on” time with the students in our care. During a SchoolMed visit we are virtually relying on the school nurse to be our hands and relay their findings to us through that collaboration,” says Julia. Goodside Health has been able to expand its service offerings to partner districts in many ways, most recently offering Wellness + Sports Physicals that provide a holistic assessment that prepares students for sports participation, and so much more.
“Our in-person offerings, like the Wellness + Sports Physicals, or Whole Child Physicals, for example, give us the opportunity to physically assess the patient. It is important to the providers, and I know it is important to the students. For some of these kids, that is the only physical they will receive all year. If there is something to be caught, this is our opportunity to catch it and provide comprehensive care to keep them healthy year-round.”
Julia brings a wealth of clinical knowledge, compassion, and experience to her role on the Goodside Health team. Outside of work, Julia is a dedicated mother to two boys and is married to “the best guy I could ask for.” Despite being afraid of heights and flying, she delights in exploring the world through travel. She knows the value of a healthy lifestyle and gets up “crazy early” to work out, fueled by her love of caffeine. Julia also likes to dress to impress, but even more than wearing a special outfit, she appreciates a beautiful handbag or the perfect pair of shoes.
Paige is passionate about her work with Goodside Health because as a child, she would have benefited from a program like SchoolMed. “I grew up without access to healthcare and it only took one or two opportunities to change the entire trajectory of my future. We’re doing that for the students we serve right now.”
Paige played an integral role in launching the Wellness + Sports Physical program, which saw the first serving of students in April of 2021. “Wellness + Sports Physicals provide a way to extend our care offerings to students in need of support year-round. When we decided to execute on this idea, we had no idea what it would look like or how impactful it would be.”
The second season of Wellness + Sports Physicals is underway and the demand from Goodside Health’s partner districts has far exceeded initial projections. The true reward, however, is our providers’ ability to build relationships with district staff, returning parents/guardians, and the students who attend an event.
“I can’t tell you how many students have said to me during a Wellness + Sports Physical event at a school, ‘I get to play sports this year! I’ve never been able to because I couldn’t get a physical,’ said Paige. “That is powerful. My team has the privilege of being on the ground and seeing some of the same kids come back this year, and share with us ‘Hey, I really loved basketball I can’t wait to play again.’ Getting to see that up close is impactful.”
One of the core values at Goodside Health is adaptability. Paige and her team have had to be highly adaptable to evolve the business in real time and meet the needs of an industry that previously did not exist. “We are a forward-facing company, and our current Wellness + Sports Physical offering is the tip of the iceberg. The ways in which we can expand this program and provide healthcare to these students feels limitless.”
Paige takes pride in mentoring and has a deep appreciation for the value of education. “I love people and advocating for their growth and happiness.” When she is not busy providing exceptional care to students through SchoolMed, she teaches Critical Care for Nurses at Texas Christian University (TCU). She is a foodie and has exacting standards for coffee and burgers. Paige loves to travel, meet new people, and have new experiences, “I am very adventurous and do better when I don’t have a plan. I like to just show up and let the day surprise me!” Her guilty pleasure is Survivor, and she hopes that one day, you will see her competing as a contestant.
