Thank you for your dedication to closing the gaps in children’s healthcare!
Tucked away between Dallas and Waco is the small school district of Frost ISD, where School Nurse Lauren Campbell, RN, BSN serves students from Pre-K through 12th grade. Nurse Lauren’s background experience as a level one trauma nurse has prepared her to tackle any situation and be the best school nurse for her community.
For the last three years at Frost ISD, Nurse Lauren has prioritized getting to know all of her students and staff members so she can support them in whatever ways they need, whether it be physical or mental. When some students were experiencing bathroom accidents during the school day, she took the initiative to meet with parents and teachers to figure out a solution.
“While some students had a rewards system, others would have a device to remind them to go to the bathroom at certain times. Coming up with an individualized plan for each student helped resolve the issue,” she recalled.
This type of personalized care is what makes a difference in a community. Alongside helping students with personal issues, Nurse Lauren knows firsthand the impact SchoolMed has had on her district.
“Frost, Texas is a rural area with limited health and medical resources. The ability to get medical care to a lower socio-economic area has proven difficult for parents and families. SchoolMed has bridged that gap, making medical care more accessible in rural areas,” she explained.
Access to healthcare is a driving force in academic achievement. Frost ISD and Nurse Lauren recognize this and prioritize their student’s health to set them up for success in the classroom.
“If the students at Frost ISD did not have access to SchoolMed, the attendance rate would decrease due to an increase in illness among the school. Furthermore, students will continue to miss school for doctor appointments and some students would not be able to receive medical attention at all leading to inadequate recovery,” she said.
Whether it’s taking care of student’s and staff’s ailments or finding a solution to allow kids to shower and wash their clothes at school — which she did — Nurse Lauren is committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to her community.
“At Frost ISD, I am more than a nurse. I am someone the students can trust and come to for any needs or problems they may have. I may not have the solution, but I will work hard to find it!”
Thank you, Nurse Lauren, for being a wellness warrior and closing the gaps in children’s healthcare for Frost ISD!
