School Health Advocate of the Month — November 2022

Thank you for your dedication to closing the gaps in children’s healthcare!

There are incredible school staff who are caring for their students every day. Each month, we are proud to highlight a special school health advocate that is closing the gaps in care for their campus community.

Jennifer Davis hasn’t been a school nurse long, but that hasn’t affected the positive impacts she has made at Alvarado ISD. She has helped to close almost 200 gaps in children’s healthcare just this school year! Thank you, Nurse Davis for going above and beyond to close the gaps in children’s healthcare each day.

What do you love about being a school nurse?

“I come from a critical care background, so being a school nurse is very different. I love getting to work with and for the people that are in my community. I love getting to care for the kids and for the staff that work here.”

How have you seen SchoolMed impact the students at your schools?

“SchoolMed has made a dramatic impact to our students. Before this program, so many of our students were always out sick and couldn’t get appointments at the local doctor. This has allowed us to cut down so many of our absences.”

How has SchoolMed worked at your school?

“It was a quick, easy, and seamless process to get SchoolMed set up here. Once they wheeled in our SchoolMed kit into the clinic, we had everything we needed to get started.”

What has been the reception of SchoolMed from parents in your community?

“It’s been a huge hit here! The parents don’t have time to stay home from their jobs and the students can’t afford the absences. The convenience alone has made such a difference. The parents are so comfortable with the Goodside providers. They’re so personable, fun, and friendly. They really know their stuff.”

What has the partnership with Goodside Health looked like?

“Devin, our Engagement Coordinator, has been amazing. She shows up every time and is always willing to help me out with whatever I need. When I run out of strep tests or anything in our med kit, she is so quick about making sure we get our things replenished.”
